Crown Point Critters: Shh Charlotte is Sleeping!

May 4th, 2012

When our photography crew travels to shoot installed Crown Point kitchens, we often encounter family pets who are quite curious about us and our equipment.  This inspired us to create this segment of our blog called “Crown Point Critters.”

Charlotte, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, snoozes comfortably against the foot of this Prairie style Crown Point cabinet.  The homeowner says she stays in this relative location for most of the day as she lives for her next meal!  Known for her loud snoring-even while awake-Charlotte is a real sweetheart!

3 Beautiful Applications of the Room Divider

April 20th, 2012

The ideal prep space for entertaining in the living room is this award winning room divider finished in Woodstock Green.

What to do with a space that you want to keep somewhat open, but also want to separate from another area of the home?  When a wall won’t do, and you just need…something, consider a room divider.

This award winning piece, handcrafted from Maple and finished in Woodstock Green Classic Paint, is the perfect solution.  On the kitchen side, we have a pass through countertop, ideal for preparing beverages and snacks for guests relaxing in the living room.  Refrigerator doors and a wine fridge conveniently store chilled goodies, and glass doors highlight the client’s best glassware.

Beautiful furniture panels create a formal look on the living room side of this room divider.

On the living room side, the piece is adorned with panels and elegant glass doors for a more formal look.  Impressively functional on one side, clean and beautiful on the other, this room divider is exactly what the homeowners were looking for.

This room divider acts as an entertainment center on the living room side.

Another room divider, this time finished in Olive Classic Paint, is the multifunctional centerpiece of this space.  On the living room side, shallow base cabinets house DVDs and other entertainment necessities. Open glass shelves provide ample space for displaying family photos.

The kitchen side of this room divider features clever storage space and open shelving.

On the kitchen side, there is cabinetry and open shelving as well, providing valuable space for pantry items and cookbooks alike.   Maintaining the open feel of the home was important to the homeowners, and the room divider accomplished this beautifully.

A stunning cherry piece divides the kitchen from the sitting room.

Handcrafted from Cherry and finished in Vintage Brown with a Van Dyke Glaze, this room divider also separates the kitchen from the living space.  With no cabinetry above, this piece provides an expansive surface for serving food buffet style, or simply for displaying family treasures.  Several drawers and four doors conceal everyday items such as place mats, and also keep special occasion items nearby.

From the living room, this room divider is understated, yet beautiful.

Understated and handsome, the other side boasts beautiful furniture panels showing off the character of the Cherry.  In short, this piece is perfect for this traditional home.

Featured Kitchen: Handsome Fusion of Prairie and Arts & Crafts!

March 28th, 2012

Design details from our Arts & Crafts Designer Series and our Prairie Line come together in this stunning kitchen.

This impressive custom kitchen is a prime example of what we do here at Crown Point Cabinetry; working directly with clients, drawing from their varied wish lists, creating a space that’s perfectly tailored to their personal style.

In this case, the discerning clients were passionate about period details and quickly fell in love with elements from both our Prairie Line and our Arts & Crafts Designer Series.   Rather than pigeonholing their kitchen as decidedly one or the other, they took creative license and combined the two for a unique kitchen, all their own.

Bracketed crown moulding, tapered peninsula legs and the arch toekick are all details from our Arts & Crafts Designer Series

From our Arts & Crafts Designer Series, they chose distinctive details such as bracketed crown moulding, tapered legs on the peninsula and an arch toekick.

The Ellsworth Door (patent pending) features a solid wood panel and wood muntins in customizable arrangements.

From the Prairie Line, they selected our innovative Ellsworth Door (design patent pending,) offering new creativity on Prairie style cabinetry.  Wood or custom leaded glass panels featuring muntins in an asymmetrical L-shape can be paired, flipped or turned, creating visual balance in a multitude of arrangements.

A detail along the refrigerator wall showing the Ellsworth door and appliance panels.

“No one else is doing anything like this,” says Crown Point’s Production Designer Fred Puksta of the Ellsworth Door design. “It takes a lot of work and careful planning to make it all come together in a room.”

Crafted in sapele and finished in Nutmeg, this gorgeous kitchen is unique, and exactly what the homeowners were looking for.  What do you think of combining Prairie and Arts & Crafts details in one space?

Finding the right hardware for your Crown Point Cabinetry just got easier!

March 16th, 2012

Your Crown Point project, whether it’s your new kitchen, bathroom, office, home bar or any room in your home, allows for so many choices. And selecting just the right hardware can seem like a daunting task as you consider types and finishes and sizes! Fortunately, with our new Hardware section, we make it easy for you to find the right hardware for your Crown Point cabinetry.

If you are a person who likes to browse, we’ve provided clickable tabs that will present your hardware type and finish choice. For example, looking at the image below, you can see the Pull tab has been selected, and there are five choices under that: Satin Pulls, Polished Pulls, Antique Pulls, Black Pulls, Glass Pulls. (Tech tip: Hover your cursor over the tab to display the drop-down menu choices, but by clicking on the tab, all hardware of that type will display, regardless of finish. In other words, clicking on the “Pulls” tab will bring up all the Pulls.)

If you prefer to search by a more specific means, there is a search box ready for you.

Take your time, and enjoy making your hardware choices!

(As we have mentioned elsewhere, we do not sell hardware separately, sorry.)

Fantastic Turnout at the International Builders’ Show!

February 23rd, 2012

This year's IBS was a huge success, with almost twice as many people visiting our booth as last year!

Earlier this month, four Crown Point designers and company President Brian Stowell headed down to Orlando for the 2012  International Builders’ Show (IBS).  It was our third time exhibiting at the show, and our second time in Orlando (the annual show alternates between Orlando and Las Vegas).

The turnout was fantastic.  In fact, over the four-day show, we talked to almost twice as many attendees as last year!  Overall there was a 90% increase in those requesting information, so our designers will be very busy in the the months ahead!

Attendees browse our booth and chat with Crown Point Designer Jim Balcom.

Our new Universal Design display was a huge hit with attendees.  With features like touch/push drawer slides, pull down cabinet shelving, a roll-under sink and elevated toe-kick areas, this display showcases the best in Universal Design from Crown Point Cabinetry.

The video below will give you an overview, in case you missed the show!

Beyond being attracted to our fine quality custom cabinetry, Brian Stowell said there was another reason for our success at the show.  “When builders found out that we only sell direct, I felt more popular than the new girl in school.  Builders love the idea of not having to send their clients off to a showroom, so we were the perfect fit!”

One thing is for sure, unlike two or three years ago, there are a lot of good things happening in building and remodeling.  We’re looking forward to working with all of the nice folks we met at the show!

The First Annual Crown Point Pigskin 5k a Success!

February 21st, 2012

Tony DiPadova of the Treadsetters Running Club presents Crown Pointers Mark Wirta, Tamara Raymond, Albon Powell, Cait Merriam and Tedd Leblanc with a certificate thanking Crown Point for sponsoring the event.

This Super Bowl Sunday, Crown Point Cabinetry was the event sponsor for the first annual Pigskin 5k Walk/Run.  Almost two hundred people laced up their sneakers, many sporting their favorite player’s jersey, to raise money for Claremont’s Community Center Project.

A number of Crown Pointers got in on the fun, and here are some shots from the day!

Crown Point's Production Manager, Don Paquette (with his son Mitchell) and Crown Point Designer Mark Wirta prepare for the race with Bethany Aldrich (her parents, Tammy and Ken Aldrich, are both Crown Pointers!)

Cait Merriam, Melissa Billings-Bean (both Crown Pointers) and Bob Bean get ready to start timing the runners as they cross the finish line.

John Proper, Crown Point's Application Engineer, and his son Tanner near the finish line.

These special "pigskins" were given out to the top 3 males, top 3 females and to the "best dressed."

The Pigskin 5K was a fun-filled community event, and a great way to gear up for the big game!  We hope to see you out there next year!

Crown Point Critters: Say Hello to “Sophie” and “Jodie!”

February 2nd, 2012

When our photography crew travels to shoot installed Crown Point kitchens, we often encounter family pets who are quite curious about us and our equipment.  This inspired us to create this segment of our blog called “Crown Point Critters.”

Today’s Critters are 12-year-old lab, Sophie, and 6-year-old Schipperke, Jodie.  Here, they’re relaxing in their favorite spot-right in the middle of their Crown Point Kitchen!

“Given the proximity of food, the kitchen is their favorite room in the house,”  the homeowner says.  “We contemplated putting in an island, but the dogs vetoed that idea.  They wanted a full view of everything happening.”

Do you have a Crown Point Critter?  Send a photo of your pet posing with your Crown Point Cabinetry.  We just might feature your furry (or scaley, or feathery) friend on the blog!

Neoclassical Style Crown Point Kitchen featured in Old House Interiors Magazine!

January 19th, 2012

Crown Point President Brian Stowell's innovative Neoclassical style Crown Point Kitchen

Our very own Brian Stowell’s Crown Point Kitchen is currently being featured in the April Issue of Old House Interiors Magazine!

Crown Point Cabinetry's design patented Squared Channel face frames

As President of Crown Point, Brian wanted to take advantage of the blank slate of his own home to develop something fresh and innovative for the company.  He consulted Crown Point Product Designer, Fred Puksta to come up with the design.   The result was the development of a new decorative element, called the channel stock face frame, that would become the foundation of our Squared Channel and Straight Channel construction styles.

This kitchen became the first from our Neoclassical line, featuring the Squared Channel face frame.  A stunning island in reclaimed antique chestnut is the eye-catching focal point of the room.  Perimeter cabinetry is installed at varying heights and finished in two complementary colors.  Taking cues from architecture in Rome, Florence and Venice, design details such as pediments, arches and intricate crown mouldings are the finishing touches on this beautiful, unique kitchen.

Before & After: Crisp White Kitchen Remodel in Charlestown NH!

January 12th, 2012

Charlestown Kitchen: After!

The homeowners of this Charlestown, New Hampshire home had never really liked their natural wood cabinets.  They preferred the look of clean, crisp white cabinetry.  Last year, it was time for a change, and they called upon Crown Point Cabinetry to remodel their kitchen.

“We wanted to keep our appliances,” said the homeowners when asked what was on their wish list. “We like simple, small details and wanted to incorporate green glass tiles we had seen on a cooking show.”  They also wanted a way to hide items like the blender, ordinarily kept on the counter.

Charlestown Kitchen: Before.

The result is a bright, open kitchen.  The new cabinetry, finished in Farrow & Ball Wimborne White, was built to accommodate the existing appliances and extends to the ceiling to make full use of the wall space. The custom cherry island sports the countertop from the original island and provides an accent point finished in Fiddletone stain. An appliance garage hides the blender and, as the homeowner had envisioned, the green glass tile makes for a stylish backsplash.

Far wall: Before.

Perhaps the most exciting transformation in this space is the previously empty wall, opposite the main kitchen.

Far wall: After!

“We entertain a lot,” said the homeowners. “We wanted to have a separate area for a wet bar and decided to utilize one entire wall, gaining pantry space in the process.”

A sink, beverage fridge and an ample black marble countertop make this an ideal prep space for entertaining.  Stemware is conveniently housed behind glass doors above, and small green glass tiles placed in a unique wave pattern unify this area with the kitchen.

The homeowners shared some final thoughts:

“Crown Point Cabinetry listened to our ideas and our desire for quality with functionality.  They were able to create our vision and we couldn’t be happier with the end result!  Thank you!”

To which we say: “You’re very welcome, enjoy!”
